Orchestra: How to Shift Infographic Poster

While most method books teach shifting using a 'guide finger' or 'ghost note,' this poster breaks down shifting into the following categories:

• Shifting up with the same finger
• Shifting up from a low to a higher finger
• Shifting up from a high to a lower finger
• Shifting down with the same finger
• Shifting down from a low to a higher finger
• Shifting down from a high to a lower finger

Using the explanations contained in this poster, I have been able to successfully teach shifting in 1st year beginning orchestra. I teach shifting as an isolated concept, then apply it in real life using my Blank Fingering Chart and a few shifting scales.
